At Lynch Motors we have long been known for our passion for electric propulsion and our unrivalled brushed motors and electric drive systems, made right here at our Honiton head quarters. But now, for the first time ever, we’re introducing a new brushless electric motor into our lineup: the DriveMaster.
We’ve always championed brushed motors—and still do. In fact, we continue to design and build our brushed electric motors and marine drive systems in-house. But we've also listened to customer demand, industry trends, and real-world applications. And sometimes, a brushless motor is the better fit.
So, why the shift? And what does this mean for you?
Why we've added a brushless motor to our range
Until now, we’ve focused exclusively on our trusted brushed systems. But after extensive testing and feedback—including a soft launch of the DriveMaster at the recent Crick Boat Show—we’ve decided it’s time to expand.
The brushless DriveMaster offers more flexibility when it comes to high-power, high-voltage applications—something brushed systems aren’t always best suited for. If you’re powering a larger vessel or need rapid acceleration (think electric speed boats), a brushless electric motor can give you the torque control and performance you’re after.
So, what's different about the DriveMaster Motor?
Unlike our brushed motors, which we manufacture ourselves, the DriveMaster is a branded Lynch Motor product that we source from a trusted supplier. We took our time with this launch to ensure we were fully confident in the motor's performance and in the company we’re partnering with.
This motor is:
- A high-quality brushless electric motor suitable for marine use
- Designed for voltages from 48v to 400v
- Fully compliant with all major certifications including DNV, Bureau Veritas, ES-TRIN, and ABS
- Ideal for larger vessels or situations where you’re running above 72v
- Engineered for quick acceleration and refined torque control
Brushless vs brushed: which is right for you?
There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Here’s a quick breakdown:
Feature Brushed Motor Brushless Motor
Voltage Up to 72v 48v – 400v
Maintenance Requires servicing Requires servicing (e.g. bearings, shaft)
Cost Lower Higher due to complex electronics
Torque Control Great Excellent for precision
Suitable For Most small-to-medium vessels Larger or performance-based vessels
Made by Lynch Yes Branded Lynch (externally sourced)
Still unsure? We’re always happy to help you choose the best propulsion system for your needs.
Meet DriveMaster in person
The DriveMaster made its first appearance at the Crick Boat Show, where early feedback was overwhelmingly positive. We will be showing it again at Electrika in July and It’s now available to order—so if you’re ready to explore the benefits of brushless motors for your marine application, get in touch with the team today.
We may be known for our brushed motors, but our commitment has always been to provide the best electric propulsion solutions—whatever form they take.
